FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –
Sheriff Brian Kirkland of the Swain County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the successful completion of a multiagency law enforcement operation in partnership with the Cherokee Indian Police Department. The operation took place on Friday, October 17th, and Saturday, October 18th, 2025, and focused on enhancing public safety and addressing criminal activity in Swain County and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Boundary.
The coordinated effort brought together deputies from the Swain County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Cherokee Indian Police Department, demonstrating the power of collaboration between local and tribal law enforcement agencies. The operation included increased patrols, targeted enforcement actions, and community outreach initiatives designed to deter crime and build trust within the community.
During the operation, Anthony David Pruitt of Franklin was charged after a brief pursuit with Possession of a stolen motor vehicle, fleeing to elude arrest, and driving while his license was revoked. He was given a $10,200 secured bond.
Sheriff Kirkland stated, “Our partnership with the Cherokee Indian Police Department is vital to the safety and well-being of all residents in Swain County and the Qualla Boundary. By working together, we are able to share resources, expertise, and information to more effectively address the challenges facing our communities.”
