Smoky Mountain Conference Shines In State Track Meet

The 2025 NCHSAA 1A State Track and Field Championships, held on May 16 at Marcus T. Johnson Track in Greensboro, North Carolina, showcased outstanding performances from athletes representing Swain County, Hayesville, Robbinsville, Murphy, Cherokee, and Andrews. These Western North Carolina schools demonstrated exceptional talent and competitive spirit throughout the event.

Girls: Swain County Dominates Again

Swain County’s Lady Maroon Devils clinched their fifth consecutive and sixth overall 1A state title, amassing 97 points to outpace runner-up Corvian Community School (75 points). Arizona Blankenship led the charge by winning both the 1600m and 3200m races for the third straight year. Annie Lewis contributed significantly with a victory in the 800m, a second-place finish in the 1600m, and third in the 3200m.

### Swain County

 

* **Arizona Blankenship**: Achieved victories in both the 1600m and 3200m races, marking her third consecutive year winning these events. 

 

* **Annie Lewis**: Secured first place in the 800m, second in the 1600m, and third in the 3200m, contributing significantly to Swain County’s team score.

 

* **Nse Uffort**: Dominated the field events by winning both the shot put and discus, earning the title of Most Outstanding Performer in the boys’ meet.

 

Robbinsville

 

* **Boys’ Team**: Achieved a strong sixth-place finish overall with 33 points, showcasing depth across multiple events, including a silver medal for Isaiac Collins in the shotput.

 

Cherokee

 

* **Girls’ Team**: Finished 11th with 21 points, reflecting solid performances across various disciplines, including a gold medal for Joss Stamper in the Discus.

 

* **Boys’ Team**: Tied for 13th place with 16 points, indicating competitive showings in multiple events. ([MileSplit United States][1])

 

Andrews

 

* **Boys’ Team**: Also tied for 13th place with 16 points, demonstrating strong individual efforts contributing to the team score, including a bronze medal, third place finish for Will Wood in the discus, and a gold medal for Logan Shuler in the High Jump.
