Franklin Dominates Swain, Remaining Undefeated

In a one-sided affair, the Franklin Panthers controlled all phases of the game to secure a dominant 35-7 victory over the Swain County Maroon Devils. Franklin’s aggressive playmaking and strong defense kept Swain scoreless for most of the game, and a commanding first half set the tone for their win.

The Panthers wasted no time asserting their dominance on the opening drive, utilizing short, quick passes to Braydon Hervey, Braydon Dezarn, and Lance Parker to march down the field. Hervey capped off the drive with a 5-yard rush into the end zone, and the extra point was good, giving Franklin an early 7-0 lead.

Swain’s first possession started deep in their own territory at the 15-yard line, and things went from bad to worse for the Maroon Devils. Facing pressure, quarterback Medlin rolled out for a pass, only to have it intercepted by Franklin’s star, Braydon Hervey, who ran it back for a pick-six. With the extra point, Franklin extended their lead to 14-0 in just the first few minutes of the game.

Swain’s second drive resulted in a quick three-and-out, forcing them to punt and give the ball back to a red-hot Franklin offense. However, the Panthers’ next drive was cut short when quarterback Terrell attempted a deep pass, which was intercepted by Swain’s Glaspie, giving Swain some hope as they took over on their own 30-yard line.

The Maroon Devils managed to gain some momentum with a pass to Sylas Stanberry for a first down, followed by a productive rush. On third and long, Hervey continued his stellar performance, sacking Medlin and forcing Swain to punt as the first quarter came to an end.

In the second quarter, Franklin’s offense kept their foot on the gas. Powering the running game with consecutive first-down rushes, pushing the ball deep into Swain territory. Facing a crucial fourth-and-2 on the Swain 14-yard line, Hervey delivered once again, converting the fourth down with a 12-yard rush to the 2-yard line. On the next play, finding the end zone for the second time, and with the extra point, Franklin’s lead grew to 21-0.

Swain’s struggles continued on their fourth drive. Though Grady Lewis and Mason Cochran each picked up first downs on the ground, they were unable to sustain the drive and were forced to punt, leaving only three seconds on the clock to end the half.

The second half began much like the first, with Swain going three-and-out and punting from their own 8-yard line. Franklin took over in excellent field position on the 30 and quickly capitalized. After a screen pass to Hervey for a first down, the Panthers faced another fourth-and-1. Hervey came through again, rushing for his third touchdown of the night, putting Franklin up 28-0.

The Panthers’ defense continued to stifle Swain’s offense, forcing another three-and-out on Swain’s sixth drive. On Franklin’s ensuing possession, Terrell connected on a huge pass to Lance Parker for a 70-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 35-0 late in the third quarter.

Swain finally broke through in the fourth quarter as Lewis powered his way to a 34-yard rush, setting up a 1-yard touchdown run that put Swain on the board. With the extra point, Swain cut the lead to 35-7, but it was far too late to mount any serious comeback.

Franklin ran out the clock in the final minutes of the game, sealing the 35-7 victory. With a standout performance from Braydon Hervey on both sides of the ball and a suffocating defense, Franklin dominated from start to finish.
