A beautiful night for High School football as the Charlotte Country Day Buccaneers make their trip to Bryson City to face off against the Swain County Maroon Devils. The Buccaneers receiving the ball first look to get the offense going early but gets cut short by an interception from Swain’s Defensive Back, Josiah Glaspie. As both defenses stopped the opposing team until the end of the first, the Devils broke out with a rush by Glaspie to get them inside the Red Zone, followed by a triple option pass from Reese Winchester to Joshua Collins, to get the Devil’s on the board early, 6-0.

The Bucs offense attempts to respond, with Quarterback Khalel Wright finding his receivers on multiple passes leading to 1st downs. This will end soon due to Swain’s OLB Josh Collins forcing a fumble to end the Buccaneers drive. This trend continues as the Devils miss a handoff causing a fumble recovered by the defense, however the half comes to a close before Charlotte Country day can capitalize.

Swain County comes out of the half hot, with Running back Collins breaking out with a shocking 75 yard touchdown to add to the devils lead, 13-0. With a quick 3 and out by the devils defense, they had no sign of stopping, using the running game once again to march down the field. Winchester soon finds Tight end Brandon Frost on a trick play to add to swain’s lead, 20-0.

As Charlotte Country Day battles many penalties, they fail on a 4th down conversion. Allowing Swain to have another huge rush of 65 yards by Glaspie, the Devils continued their lead, 27-0. As the Buccaneers continue to struggle to find their offense, Swain’s rushing game doesn’t stop, combining for 50 yards on two seperate rushes by the running backs, the Devil’s are faced with a challenge on 4th down. Quarterback Winchester rushes in for another touchdown to make the score, 34-0. Time expires and the Devil’s win the game with a blowout.

Look Ahead: The Maroon devils will head to Sylva to face off against the Smoky Mountain Mustangs, looking to change the outcome of their meeting last season. Charlotte Country Day also heads out on the road to face the Community School of Davidson.
